Precious and Sweet

There is nothing that disgusts me more than to hear churchy folk use churchy cutsie phrases. It smacks of listening to the church lady on Saturday night Live a few years back. The reason the world makes fun of Christianity is because Christianity is one of the few religions where there's so much freedom that people take liberties with it and make up stupid shit and call it belief, or doctrine, dogma.. dare I say 'faith'.

One of the cutsie things churchy folks will do is refer to our Lord and savior as 'precious' or 'sweet'. Ok if you're referring to your household pet, but we're talking about the King of all Kings, Lord of the Universe.. where do you get off calling Him by a name much more suited for a poodle than the giver of your eternal salvation?

The scriptures call Him 'wonderful', 'counselor', the 'mighty God', 'advocate', 'the resurrection and the life', the 'light of the world', 'holy one', 'high priest', and 'the way, the truth, and the life'. Where does precious or sweet enter into that picture?

Christians had better clean up their petty excuse for a religion and get on with humbling themselves knowing that God isn't your pet poodle, but is the creator of everything and the creator of YOU. How dare you make a mockery of the Lord with your off-the-shelf brand of Christianity?

Remember too that Jesus was the Lord who overturned the tables in the temple, beat people with a rope, grabbed a sword from Peter's hand, and called the apostles stupid for not listening. That's my Jesus - My 'ass kicking' Jesus.

AMEN.

The Christian Test

Today we're going to take a little test. If you answer 'yes' to more than 10 of these questions, you need to reconsider your walk with Christ and make some changes. Salvation can be yours.. even someone calling themself a Christian by doing these silly things.

Do you think that “the Church” is a place that you go?

Do you watch TBN, other than for comedic reasons?

Do you regularly "come forward" or feel compelled to "come forward" at the end of a church service when the pastor gives the altar call?

Does your church push whatever is the newest bestselling “christian” book. For example, has your pastor asked you or the church to be “Purpose Driven”?

Did you read any of the "Left Behind" books or watch the movie?

Do you listen to any radio broadcast that is affiliated with Focus on the Family?

Do you have any Max Lucado books in your personal library?

Do you have a fish decal on your car, or any other bumper sticker that tells people to get saved or go to hell??

Do you attend any church that's name begins with "United"?

Do you use the word "anointed" on a regular/semi-regular basis?

Do you now, or have you in the past, spoken in tongues?

Does your church use a big screen in order to display images during a church service?

Have you ever said "Jesus loves you" to a perfect stranger?

Do you wear a WWJD bracelet?

Are you a member of Promise Keepers?

Have you attended a Joyce Meyer's conference? If so, did you leave feeling 'refreshed'?

Do you carry John 3:16 signs to sporting events? (If so then please stop it)

Do you believe Christian bookstores are actually Christian?

Does your church recommend the book "The prayer of Jabez"?

Do you subscribe to "Christianity Today" or "Charisma" magazine?

Do you feel anger well up in you when someone rejects Christmas or Easter as pagan?

Well, how'd you do? If you answered yes to more than 10 of these questions - it's time to stop what you're doing and change direction. Jesus isn't about all that stuff. Faith in Christ is a personal thing. And you need to realize that none of this stuff can save you - only Jesus.. so why concentrate on anything but. Amen.
