Where we Came From
by Chris Crane

(from my book "Predestined" coming soon)

One of my favorite studies is the study of predestination. There are alot of arguments in religious circles (throughout history) that the idea of predestination in some way negates the work of the cross. The sacrifice of Christ would be of little use if my life was predetermined by God.. or so the argument goes.

Its really simple. Many people believe (Christians) that our soul didn't come into being until conception. That the act of birth and birth of spirit are somehow connected. That is only true of this 3D space we find ourselves in. Before our conception here on earth, we existed in Heaven with God. I hear and smell the gears halting on many of you already. You and I exist for a purpose, and we existed before this time domain began. How do I know this to be fact? Call it a gut feeling, but there's plenty of scripture to back it up. Example: Ephesians. What a cool book. Eph. 1:3, 4 - "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world..." When were we chosen? "before the foundation of the world".. why were we chosen? "that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love". HMM. Interesting, but wait - there's more. Eph. 1:5 - "…having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself" He predestined us to be adopted as sons? why did He do this? "according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved."

So we existed before this time, lived in the presence of God, and it was predestined that we be born here.. this dirty testing ground, our memories of our past erased, and for what purpose? God told Jeremiah in Jer. 1:5 - "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." The psalmist wrote in Psalm 139:16 - "...your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."

If you feel that your life is missing purpose, then you're missing the point completely. We were called, seperated out, appointed, and predestined for the purpose of serving God and proclaiming His name in our innermost being, and to others. Knowing God and seeking Him out was your duty and obligation, your calling and drive from before you were even born. And it is our faith in Him, and acceptance of the work of Christ is all that matters in this life.
